Heart, instinct, principles

Trees and sky

With thanks…

“Heart, instinct, principles” is a great quote from the French mathematician, Pascal.

It sums up the basis upon which this growing social enterprise is aiming to thrive!

With thanks to you for all your support and engagement.

Studying with the School for Social Entrepreneurs this year has helped us scale our efforts.

All communities have members who are people with disabilities. They are people of worth and value. They are family members, co-workers, business owners, customers, fellow students, worshippers, volunteers and neighbours. They are one of us. We are being denied the full potential of this membership. People with disabilities, particularly those with high support needs, remain on the margins of our communities. They experience greater degrees of loneliness and isolation. Funding for services and supports has remained out of their control. They are not truly respected for their capabilities. The majority of services use segregated and congregated care models and so many people spend their lives as visitors in their own communities. These models create a group of passive service recipients, diminishing social innovation capacity and undermining personal responsibility.

InCharge offers people an opportunity to make a direct investment in their own capacity and in securing their individual contribution to community. We launched The Ally Project this year as one response to this. We know the effort it takes to step from the periphery of community to find your place. This is why an Ally role is so crucial. An Ally can work to build networks around individuals with disability ensuring far-reaching impact and sustainability of outcome.

We continued to work with individuals and families to build personalised service models from the ground up.

In 2013…..

We plan to offer easy access to skills and information for self-direction and innovative ideas that raise expectations of what is possible for people. For individuals and families currently self-directing their funding we plan to offer a peer-supervision and training service for their support workers. We believe there is a need for tailored training that targets issues related to working in personalised ways.

We look forward to seeing you next year!

Peace and best wishes for the season
